Printer ratios – a straw poll by @midlandsSBM
This list started off as a quick poll on Twitter. It’s grown too long to capture in a screen shot so I’ve moved the results to my blog.
Hayley Dunn (ASCL’s Business Leadership Specialist) and I, as ISBL’s Chair, both feel this subject is something it would be good for local SBM groups to explore with their members in more detail.
Fewer copiers and printers on site isn’t an end in itself – total print volume, average distance to each device for users, up time and, ultimately, the quality of the curriculum resources being printed are all important factors when reviewing print strategies.

Lisa has 3 devices on site. Matt has a middle school of 640 pupils and 60 staff and just 3 MFDs. No other printers.
Both Matt and Nicky work with clusters of schools. Nicky is COO at LEO Academy Trust in Sutton, Surrey- a primary MAT with 3,500 pupils.
I’ll leave Stephen Mitchell at the Spencer Academies Trust with the last word, “It’s an interesting thread, and huge variety. Perhaps that’s the way it should be. We can’t reduce everything to ratios and maths. The answer is putting an effective, efficient fleet that meets the needs of colleagues and students. This will vary based upon site layout, and ops”
